Christine Taylor is a contemporary photographer, fashion photo instructor at Art Institute of Portland (see class in action here), conceptual artist and culture writer who resides in the lush northwest. After many years working as a photojournalist and editorial photographer in the indie/pop music scenes, she headed to Chicago to study art and art theory, at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her college experience changed the direction of her photographic work leading her to blend her instinctual journalistic background with an idea and personality driven approach.
After school she headed an hour north to Milwaukee, where her work branded an award-winning Midwest publication for The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, after which she decided to test drive the east coast. Working out of New York toughened her up, preparing her to settle into the green life of the Northwest.
Her work is heavily influenced by her response to urban environments, nature and land, music, and body movement, with the creative use of multiple (often mixed) light sources. The result is consequential and collaborative portraiture with a certain alluring quirkiness. Her work has been exhibited in galleries around the country, published in several books, and dozens of periodicals. Portraits by Christine Taylor include hundreds of artists and musicians. She consults on many projects and has spent time working with Igloo Gallery, PDL Art Collective, Vital 5 Productions, Wafaa Bilal, Lori Talley, Nathan Butler, Catalina Mejia, and Mark Jeffery (of Goat Island).
In addition to photographing people, Christine is a photo producer, editor and a culture writer for online publications including Portland's PDX Pipeline, and The Strange Attractor, an international design blog made up of a community of 18 designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, and musicians from 9 different countries, based out of Chicago. You can also get lighting ideas at her blog C.Taylor's Happyplayground.
